MESSA is a brand focused on functional outerwear, defined by clean lines, considered materials, and precise craftsmanship. It was founded in 2019 in Prague as an author-led project by Petra Messa, who studied garment design at secondary school and later painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bratislava. This intersection of clothing and visual thinking continues to shape the brand’s approach today.
At its core is a consistent pursuit of balance between style and function — without compromise on either side. Each piece is designed to perform in real conditions while maintaining a clear visual identity.
MESSA works with materials that enable this balance. The brand collaborates with the Czech manufacturer Nanomembrane, which develops technical textiles with a high level of protection — offering water resistance up to 18,000 mm, windproofness, and breathability that ensure performance even in demanding conditions. Alongside this, MESSA works with Ventile — a durable, densely woven cotton developed for the British Air Force. Treated with a DWR finish, it provides natural water repellency while maintaining breathability and the character of a natural material. Material selection always responds to the specific purpose of each design.
Each piece is made in the brand’s studio in Piešťany, located within the cultural and community space ARTA. The entire process — from initial design and pattern construction to final assembly — takes place under the direction of the designer. Producing a single coat or jacket takes on average 15 to 20 hours, depending on the complexity of the model. Small-scale production allows for close attention to detail and naturally creates space for individual adjustments.
A personalised approach means working directly with the needs of the wearer — adjustments to fit, length, or functional details are part of the process, not an afterthought.
MESSA builds a wardrobe gradually. Not through seasonal collections, but through pieces defined by purpose, longevity, and a natural place in everyday life.
